Data Scientist - Formulation Group - (18010889) Description About Syngenta: Syngenta is one of the world’s leading agribusinesses. Our ambition is to help safely feed the world while taking care of the planet. We aim to improve the sustainability, quality and safety of agriculture with world class science and innovative crop solutions and invest over $1.3 billion per year in global R&D – nearly $3.7 million per day. Our technologies enable millions of farmers around the world to make better use of limited agricultural resources. With 28,000 people in more than 90 countries we are working to transform how crops are grown. Through partnerships, collaboration and The Good Growth Plan we are committed to improving farm productivity, rescuing land from degradation, enhancing biodiversity and revitalizing rural communities. About this job We are seeking a data scientist to join our Formulation Group at Jealott’s Hill International Research Centre. In order to develop new technologies and crop protection products, it is important that our experiments are well designed and executed and this is where we need your skills. You will be working directly with chemists to proactively help them clarify their objectives and then advising on the optimum design and data collection requirements. Once the experiment is complete, you will also be applying your expertise to help make sure the data is analysed, visualised and interpreted correctly – either conducting the analysis yourself or providing coaching to help experiment owners reach the right conclusions. The close working relationship needed between data scientist and chemist means it’s essential that you are good at coaching and working with others and are able to clearly communicate statistical concepts to non-experts. This is a new role and we are looking for an individual who will actively seek out new opportunities where data science and data management can have a significant positive impact on our group. We know there is a lot more we could be doing with our data to help us develop better products more quickly – and we need your skills to identify the opportunities and deliver solutions, whether it is automating analysis to streamline our processes, creating apps to help integrate and access our data more easily, or teaching chemists new techniques to manipulate and better manage their data. Self-motivation, great networking skills, and a real focus on delivery alongside your strong technical and leadership skills will be key to your success. You will take pride in sharing your expertise with others and knowing you have helped extract full value from the data our chemists generate. Qualifications To help you work alongside our teams you will need at least a basic foundation in Chemistry. You may have studied Chemistry for your degree, and subsequently grown your skills in data science through work in industry, or you may have studied statistics at university and applied your skills working in a chemical research and development environment. Either way, we would like to hear from you. You will be experienced in the use of statistical analysis software packages, for example JMP or Design-Expert, and some experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly beneficial: R, Python, programming in R (Shiny), database design and development in Oracle APEX. If these are not currently part of your skillset, then we would still welcome your application, provided you have the capability and desire to grow into the role. Jealott’s Hill International Research Centre is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead, and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Benefits include a company pension scheme, flexible work hours, private health insurance and generous holiday entitlement. If this opportunity sounds like the challenge you are looking for then we would love to hear from you. Primary Location:   GBR-Berkshire-Bracknell Work Locations:   G06-Jealotts Hill Int.
