About the Role
Role Title: Data Analytics (Energy)Reporting to: Market Modelling and Analysis ManagerLocation: London/Solihull (can be based out of either location, however travel will be required to both sites)
The Market Fundamentals Analyst is an expert in GB and EU energy markets. The role holder has responsibility for performing model runs to support projects, providing analysis and market intelligence.
The role has two key responsibilities• delivering high quality analysis that can help shape long term market views, Business Development projects, strategic decision making and risk appraisals, based on extensive market knowledge, understanding and modelling outputs.• developing our data architecture and delivering high quality data analytics solutions to the Market Fundamentals team – enabling the team to make robust informed decisions.
As part of a matrix team the role holder will be responsible for delivering in-depth insights, market knowledge, country data, key assumptions around specified countries and topics and sharing this knowledge across the business. The role involves working closely with colleagues within the US Market Fundamental team to ensure a high quality and integrated approach to common issues and themes.
The role holder will be responsible for managing internal and external relationships relevant to the area of expertise.
• Provide market modelling and market analysis to Business.• Manage, maintain and continuously improve Market Fundamentals in-house market models (such as PLEXOS), ensuring they are fit for purpose, fully documented, calibrated and verified. Articulate and explain market model inputs/outputs to internal and external stakeholders.• Inspecting, cleansing and transforming data to provide in-depth analysis to support short term balancing and trading as well as longer term strategic decision making.• Updating and expanding a wide range of big datasets, improving our data architecture and structure, capturing data and interpreting data trends.• Implementation of data analytics techniques to improve the data analysis capability within Market Fundamentals. Using these techniques identify and quantify new risks and opportunities to National Grid.• Managing the development of a platform to deliver market analytics and data analysis from the Market Fundamentals team to key stakeholders.• Lead Market Fundamentals on improving ways of handling, storing and using data• Deliver in-depth insights, market knowledge, country data, key assumptions around specified countries and topics and share this knowledge across the business.• Data extraction and analysis to improve methodologies and find new sources of data to enable in-depth analysis across the team as well as sharing best practise.• Collaborate within the Market Fundamentals team to monitor energy markets, carry out peer reviews and widely share market intelligence and analysis of critical changes in the markets.• Mentor, support and develop other Market Fundamentals team members to ensure an enduring analysis/modelling capability is created/maintained within the team.• Establish and grow strong industry networks to enhance understanding of key market drivers and developments. Represent the company at external events and conferences.
You will have a wide breadth of knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures and power market fundamentals and recent trends. You will understand related markets (gas, coal, carbon, oil, macro-economics) and their impacts on power markets. Experience in developing and employing market and/or financial models is required. PLEXOS market modelling capability and familiarity with stochastic and linear programming methods would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of excel and experience of data analytics techniques and knowhow in collecting, structuring and interpreting large datasets. You will have great experience in managing relationships with internal & external stakeholders/project partners. Experienced of web scraping and APIs, and developing models in tools such as Python, R, VBA. Coding background and experience with data visualisation (i.e. Power-BI, Tableau) would be advantageous. Ideally you will understand interconnector business models and sources of revenue.
Qualifications & Skills Required
• Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline and high level of quantitative and analytical skills, and experience; comfortable with interpreting large datasets and working with complex models and tools.• Strong planning and organisational skills, ability to simultaneously manage and prioritise multiple issues.• Ability to translate model outputs into business insight and articulate impact on investment cases.• Agile and collaborative working style.• Self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure and peaks in work load.• Excellent communication skills both written and oral.• Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to influence others, work collaboratively and constructively with project partners, external stakeholders and internal teams to achieve consensus and positive outcomes.

What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £35,000 - £59,000 – dependent on capability.As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
