A key role within the Competition practice, the Junior Data Scientist will help support the practice with continuing growth. The successful candidate will work across a number of Competition projects working closely with the wider team. 1. Analysis and Problem Solving :   Work independently to develop and deliver analysis, within an overall project framework set by others, using more sophisticated tools where relevant. Help others team members to develop their own technical skills. 2. Communication Skills:   Ability to flex style in day to day contact internally and with clients, in addition to clearly structured written work. 3. Work management skills:   Structure and manage your own time to deliver consistently good work under conflicting pressures. 4. Client relationship skills:   Build regular contact through day to day project interactions and tailor outputs to different clients. 5. Frontier Ambassador:   Contribute to the life of the firm beyond project work. Responsibilities: 1. Analysis and Problem Solving : Agree with project managers a specific brief for analysis / modelling based on the project requirements and economic framework. Deliver, under the supervision of more experienced team members, analysis to that brief, and QA the results. Source data and set our data requirements, adapting analysis based on data availability. Analyse large data sets and use complex analytical tools and techniques. Review results alongside other team members, highlighting key results and agreeing potential implications of the analysis. Develop an understanding of how to present key findings to colleagues and clients. Help other team members to develop their own technical skills. 2. Communication Skills: Participate in discussions in internal meetings and flex style depending on the type of meeting. Engage with clients in a manner that is clear and sensitive to client needs to help facilitate the smooth running of a project (e.g. in emails/calls when requesting data). Provide clear explanations of issues/conclusions and how they were reached. Apply the appropriate structure of written inputs (e.g. consistent with Minto pyramid) with guidance from project manager. 3. Work management skills: Manage your own time so you can work independently on complex tasks and deliver consistently. Be aware of wider client timescales and deliverables, taking responsibility for timing and quality of output delivered to project manager. Work constructively to deliver work jointly with others. 4. Client relationship skills: Show an awareness of client expectations and make suggestions on how to fulfil and exceed those expectations. Technical Skills and Experience Essential Experience Applicants are required to have a Bachelors in a quantitative subject (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics). A postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline or relevant work experience is preferred but not essential. In addition to a strong academic background, candidates will have: Experience in using statistical programming languages / packages (in particular R – knowledge of Python and/or Stata would be desirable) Experience of working with large datasets and data wrangling Ability to engage novel problems and concepts and find practical solutions using existing or unfamiliar tools quickly Ability to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences Ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues Desirable Experience Experience of working in a professional development environment Knowledge of GitHub Knowledge of SQL databases Experience in using GIS packages / working with geographic data Knowledge of web scraping / working with APIs Behavioural Competencies Genuinely excellent people skills   - exemplary professionalism, enthusiasm, positive energy, openness and integrity (eschewing any “office politics”).
