Applications are invited for two 4-year postdoctoral positions available as part of the ERC Advanced Project eTALK: embodied Thought for Abstract Language Knowledge. The project will develop and test a novel cognitive developmental architecture utilising the latest generative deep learning models and developmental robotics methods for human-robot interaction experiments on the learning of concrete and abstract words via grounding transfer. Three case studies have been strategically planned to show the breadth and robustness of the proposed approach: (i) abstract word grounding for perceptual, motor and affective concepts, (ii) number word learning, and (iii) function words for demonstrative (deictic) prepositions, words about time and fuzzy quantifiers. This project is also link to the other ongoing granst on cognitive robotics and human-robot interaction at the Cognitive Robotics Lab. One post will be for a postdoctoral Research Associate (Grade 6) level, whilst the...

We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the project  Innovations in the Lab: Leveraging Transformations in Science . The researcher will be housed at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, Alliance Manchester Business School, under the supervision of Dr Cornelia Lawson and Professor Philip Shapira. The successful candidate will undertake research as part of a team project that is exploring how science is being affected by internal, institutional, and system-level transformations and how these developments interact with and influence research practices and innovations in methods and approaches in labs and their research teams. A series of transitions and shocks from the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and the automation of research to persistent post-pandemic impacts, funding uncertainties in the face of rising costs, and increased global tensions present wide-reaching implications for science. These trends...

Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate (quantitative research and data analytics) to join a team of academics, software developers and healthcare professionals and contribute to a quantitative evaluation of AI and data-driven decision-making in mental health. The primary aim of this 2-year project is to evaluate the efficacy and compatibility of the Management and Supervision Tool (MaST) provided by Holmusk, which is the first data-driven and AI-enabled decision support tool for clinicians in the adult Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) of the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH). The postholder will lead the quantitative evaluation of the efficacy of MaST and its AI components. This will entail (1) analysing the costs and effects of alternative mental health interventions, (2) evaluating the current clinical efficacy of MaST and its AI components, and (3) applying alternative machine learning...
