We plan and buy health and care services for the people of Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.
Our organisation was formed in April 2020 when Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Groups joined together. We serve a population of 934,000 people and have an annual budget of £1.3bn.
We cover a large and varied geographical area (1,511 miles squared) that includes the densely populated town of Swindon to the north, Salisbury plains to the south and rolling Mendip Hills to the west.
We are led by local family doctors (GPs) and our membership includes all 92 GP practices in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire. They are assisted by the CCG’s team of health care professionals and patient representatives to plan and deliver health and care services.
Our ambition is to empower everyone to lead their best life and we have set out to achieve this by working together with providers, local councils, the third sector and others to bring all our resources together to provide the best quality care and health outcomes for our local population.
By April 2021 we will have become an Integrated Care System in line with expectations set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.
Operating at scale across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire means we can strategically commission services and reduce variation in care so everyone receives high quality treatment, regardless of where they live. It also makes it easier to deliver better value for money across the wider health and care system.
However we are also committed to maintaining our focus on local needs and continuing well-developed local partnerships with for example, our local authorities, primary care, mental health and community services and third sector, which we value greatly.
We have created an organisational structure that enables us to work effectively at a local and system-wide level with a single Executive Team and three locality-based commissioning teams each led by a chief operating officer. Our HQ is in Chippenham and we also have locality-based offices in Bath, Devizes and Swindon.
Primary Care Networks (PCNs) will support us in our ambitions to deliver more personalised, coordinated health and social care to meet local needs. There are 23 PCNs across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire consisting of groups of GP practices that will increasingly work together with a range of local providers, social care and the voluntary sector.
