We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern in our Machine Learning and Bioinformatics team in Cambridge.

We work on next-generation solutions to fundamental questions like antibody development and cell engineering, as well as classic data science problems like prediction and recommendation. At Abcam, we are in a unique position, with strong data and technology offerings, advanced labs and expert teams. We work with internal and external partners, using algorithms and technology to continuously improve in order to scale and accelerate. In this role you will:

  • Experience work as a full member of the Machine Learning and Bioinformatics team at the forefront of innovation in life sciences

  • Deliver on a project with clear aims

  • Take part in partner meetings for review of new tool features and continuous improvements of tools

  • Work in Python and in a CI/CD + MLOps environment for scalable deployment of AI applications

  • Collaborate with different teams, e.g. Data Engineering, lab scientists, software engineers, etc

  • Learn and develop by pro-actively participating in diverse ML and bioinformatics activities across the team and at Abcam

Qualifications

We would love the hear from people with:

  • Experience in Python and relevant Python libraries (data science, bioinformatics)

  • Experience in machine learning and/or bioinformatics algorithms

  • Experience in using AI cloud tools

  • A background in computer science, mathematics, physics, cognitive science, or other areas related to machine learning, computational modelling, and statistics

  • A background in life sciences / biology (e.g. genomics)

  • Attention to detail and a drive to deliver quality solutions

  • An appetite for tackling diverse and complex data problems

  • An interest to pursue a career in this area

And we are particularly keen if you also have:

  • Skills in software development

  • Knowledge of Bayesian statistics

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in operating in an MLOps environment

  • An innovative and growth mindset, you are self-motivated and proactive, a team player with a can-do attitude, who wants to help and be your brilliant self
