We are seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our engineering teams working initially on our Credit Card solution. You will be a key member in our agile engineering teams, working with both supplier and in-house resource building on a platform already established in Poland, which forms a key part of our growth strategy, expanding the Credit Card offering into our other European markets.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity to work for us as a Lead Software Engineer based in our UK Head Office on Whitehall Road, Leeds which is a short walk from Leeds Train Station. The office has been designed as a collaborative space supporting hybrid working.

You will act as a subject matter expert in software engineering. You will lead the design implementation and re-engineering of business-critical software systems using appropriate techniques, principles and patterns and to contribute to the delivery of the Group IT Strategy.

You will lead a SCRUM development team, or teams, of software professionals whose role it is to design, develop and test software to deliver and enhance the functionality of IPF’s in house developed Credit Card solution, a key product in IPF’s financial portfolio.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience of commercial applications development with the Group IT Department of in a global financial services organisation. Our tech stack consists of .NET microservices, .NET Web Api’s, Xamarin Android application, and cloud native AWS infrastructure, all built and deployed using fully automated pipelines in Azure DevOps.

Your day-to-day activities are likely to include the following:

  • Maintain an up to date working knowledge of industry best practice in the areas of software engineering and development to ensure that software systems are appropriately designed and developed to be cost effective, functional, secure, and performant.
  • Work with the Architecture team and the Solution Delivery teams to contribute to and maintain awareness of architectural direction ensuring solutions are aligned to IT strategy.
  • Manage the timely delivery of software solutions in a variety of technology areas, matching the business requirements to the technology and shaping appropriate solutions across multiple global and market systems.
  • Be responsible for the technical management of external suppliers, leading internal and external teams to delivery software solutions in a variety of technology areas; this includes taking responsibility for the technical management of external suppliers, their adherence to development standards and practices and acting as a subject matter expert and point of contact for external suppliers and resources within the development team.
  • Take accountability to ensure that various applications and systems perform to user expectations and are continuously improved and maintained and in doing so ensure their ongoing availability to system users.
  • Investigate business issues and technology problems, providing innovate solutions quickly and efficiently to ensure solutions remain functional.
  • Provide strategic expert advice and consultation on the development and implementation of effective Group and market IT solutions.
  • Be the primary point of contact representing the development team, or teams, and communicating regularly regarding the status of current software delivery activities so that all interested parties are kept informed of progress against plans.

What are we looking for?

Here’s what experience we need from you:

  • Ideally from a financial services background
  • A proven track record of excellent software development capabilities within various SDLC models, with a focus on agile delivery, particularly the SCRUM development framework in a variety of technology environments (Git, JIRA, Confluence)
  • Seen as an expert in .Net, C# and Amazon Web Services (Developer)
  • Experienced in Azure Dev Ops
  • An enthusiastic team leader, collaborator and mentor to other developers
  • Shows an inquisitive drive to self-learn, keep abreast of the latest tools, skills and ways of working
  • Ability to work independently, take responsibility and lead a team of software developers.
