Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our growing Analytics team which is delivering industry-leading analytics solutions to global functions in AZ. The role will partner with the Global Analytics Insight (GAI) function to help them deliver their remit of providing forecasts, competitive intelligence and insight. The GAI function is organized around the therapy areas of focus for AZ: oncology, cardiovascular and metabolism diseases, respiratory and infection and neuroscience.

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of mathematical expertise, computational science skills, strong communication skills and experience of successfully applying data science in a commercial environment.

This individual will deliver tangible value to the the GAI function using statistical analysis, machine learning or other methodologies with market research and real-world data (RWD). You will be able to manipulate and prepare data (structured and unstructured) prior to analysis, develop advanced modelling algorithms, present the findings and bring the insight to life. You could be developing a patient journey using RWD, forecasting sales trends or predicting a physician segmentation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establishing strong working relationships with the Global Analytics and Insights team to develop an in-depth understanding of business priorities and early insight into changing needs
  • Translating unstructured, complex business problems into the appropriate model and algorithm solutions
  • Developing a robust understanding of relevant AZ data sources and their provenance, quality and structure
  • Working with engineering and architecture to support large scale data preparation, the optimization of analytics platforms and the industrialization of proven analytics methods
  • Working with suppliers as needed to augment the AZ capability in analytics
  • Undertaking business analysis and business process analysis as part of solution design process
  • Being an active member of the Analytics team. You will benefit from, and contribute to, our expanding bank of Data Science algorithms and work efficiently with our data science workstations. You will get involved in testing and assessing the quality of new tools. It’s also likely you’ll get involved in team recruitment, training provision and coaching
  • Developing, maintaining and applying ongoing knowledge and awareness in trends, best practice and new developments in analytics and data science

Ideal Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Commercial experience with practical examples of success in implementing data science
  • PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics or related quantitative field
  • Scientific background and understanding
  • Expertise in machine learning using unsupervised and supervised methods
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques for deriving knowledge from unstructured text
  • Use of Data Science Modelling Tools eg. R, Python, Hadoop, Spark, SAS and Data Science Notebooks (e.g. Jupyter)
  • Experience and knowledge of visualization tools (e.g. R, PowerBI, Spotfire) and ability to tell a story with the data
  • Data manipulation/preparation skills: Eg. SQL, Python, VBA
  • Sufficient knowledge of the oncology domain to enable the individual to have credibility with the business and work independently with relevant data sources, systems and tools to enable project progression
  • Ideally, hands-on experience of interrogating real-world datasets to gain insight
  • Sound understanding of market research, forecasting and competitive intelligence in a commercial environment
  • Ability to explain complex methods and techniques to a non-technical audience

In addition, candidates will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Project delivery and Business Analysis experience
  • Influencing and innovation skills
  • Good communication and facilitation skills with the ability to work with others to achieve objectives
  • Good written and verbal skills, fluent English.
