Job Description

At ElementAI we are putting together a world-class research and development team to build a platform enabling next generation AI-First businesses and advancing AI For Good.

Our applied research agenda in London focuses on working with humanitarian, environmental, societal projects and products for NGOs and nonprofits, providing the tech capacity and AI expertise to help solve some of the biggest worldwide issues those organisations face - such as human rights violation. We do so by helping them to tackle their real-world problems on real-world data, turning finding into products they love.

We are looking for a Data Scientist who will support our research and engineering teams by gaining insights and analysing datasets. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimisation and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.

In this role you will face different challenges from data exploration and cleaning to building and implementing algorithms as well as discovering solutions hidden in complicated data sets to improve product outcome.

Main responsibilities:

  • Process structured and unstructured data
  • Support Research Engineers in building Machine Learning models
  • Analyse disperse data sets and derive insights from it
  • Present information using data visualization techniques
  • Do hands-on analysis of the relevant data, assessing it from its raw stage all the way to production, including potentially preparing it for machine learning applications
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product development teams

  • A M.Sc. or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or other quantitative fields and proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst.
  • Experience in data mining
  • Experience with at least one of the following programming languages, preferably for the development of production code: Python, R
  • Strong analytical mind set
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Problem solving aptitude

Nice to have:

  • Client facing experience

What’s in it for you

  • Highly dynamic, innovative, passionate, intrapreneurial team;
  • Open and inclusive company culture;
  • Competitive salary;
  • Participation in the company success through the Employee Stock Option Plan;
  • Opportunity to interact with world-class academics from our Faculty Fellowship program
  • Access to cutting edge research
  • Flexible hours (outside of core hours);
  • Autonomous, self-managed Agile teams.

The seniority of the candidate will be established through the interview process. A more experienced candidate could evolve into a leadership position as we grow the team.

We currently have a good gender balance in our office, and are thinking hard on how to keep it that way as we grow -- not to look “correct”, but to benefit from the diversity of points of view, of ideas, of ways to work, of sensitivities, of social dynamics, that make a healthy and great team. Gender is not all there is to it, we think it’s a good place to start. We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
