Job Description

Markit DeltaOne is seeking a senior product design analyst to join our buy-side system build team.  The role is based in Bracknell and provides a great opportunity to be involved in building a new data management and processing system for financial services buy-side clients. There will be a strong focus on efficiently processing data from a variety of external data sources, but all supplied via a single service API. Performance is key as data must be processed and validated and made available to clients in a short timeframe.

Primary responsibilities are to build and test business data processing libraries, using Python; and produce corresponding written documentation.

Additional responsibilities will be day to day dealing with data challenges and any product/service queries.

A successful candidate will use good software development knowledge and an evidence-based methodical approach to problem-solving. They will be experienced in using Python that delivers business functionality and that is reliable, performant, and relatively easy to maintain. They will also be a strong communicator, acting as a liaison between non-developers such as product/client support and developers to understand the former needs and requirements and assist the latter with implementation.
They will help to address any uncertainty or concern and facilitate successful release handover.

Duties & accountabilities

  • Design and implement business data processing components
  • Contribute to or enhance shared libraries that are part of the system
  • Implement component tests for maintaining quality
  • Document processes and data flows
  • Collaborate with support and development teams to ensure the accuracy of calculations and methodologies across components

Business competencies

Education and experience

  • Highly proficient in Python (and SQL?) with at least 2 years commercial experience therein, and at least 5 years in client services and/or business analyst role.
  • Degree educated, preferably in Maths, Commerce, Economics, Science or Computer Science
  • Experience with batch or set-based data processing
  • Experience in financial services

Commercial awareness

  • Good knowledge and understanding of financial assets, at least equity and fixed income types.
  • Knowledge in market index data would be highly beneficial
  • Knowledge of performance & attribution would be beneficial
  • Experience with using data from external providers
