About the role

As part of our Business Intelligence team, the Principal Information Analyst will work in a multi-disciplinary team, playing a lead role in developing Business Intelligence products and dashboards to support the response to the COVID- 19 Pandemic.

NHS Digital is the data and technology partner of the health and care system. We deliver critical national services, lead major technological change programmes, produce impartial statistics and hold health and care data in trust for the nation enabling world-class data science.

This role is initially available on a 6 month fixed term or secondment basis.

As part of the role you will be responsible for

Building on the rapid progress of the last few months, this role will be part of a newly formed Business Intelligence team to lead on the development of dashboards to support the health and care system.

Responding to a range of customers requirements, you will prioritise tasks daily, ensuring the appropriate techniques are used to design, develop, and maintain dashboards.

About you

We want you to be set for success, these are some of the key skills and experience that you'll bring to the role:

  • Advanced specialist knowledge of analytical and requirements gathering skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in interpreting results from complex analysis, apply the results to the given problem and suggest conclusions to be drawn.
  • Specialised working knowledge of databases, including database structure and database interrogation tools.
  • Experience of working in the public sector or an understanding of the Health and Social Care system.
  • Specialist knowledge of the data within their care domain and a good working knowledge of data available within NHS Digital and the wider Heath and Social care Domain.
  • Ability to ensure quality, value and compliance with professional standards for a team's output and take accountability for this.
  • Expert in the appropriate visualisation of complex Health and Social Care Data with easy to interpret clear messages.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging national health data sets.
  • Experience of providing subject matter expertise and guidance to support in the development of clear, specific customer service requirements, managing scope changes to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Evidence of active engagement with stakeholders and negotiation skills and commitment to meeting stakeholder expectations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to choose content and style to suit the audience, including large groups.
  • Proficient in identifying and defining the resources needed to deliver to a specification.
  • Experience of working in and leading a multidisciplinary team using agile methodologies and develop technical staff.
  • Proven ability to design new data products and analytical outputs that meet the needs of customers.
  • The ability to develop dashboards using best of breed tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Understanding of market trends and developments and how this might impact work at NHS Digital.
  • Understanding and experience of using technology that underpins the development and deployment of BI solutions, reducing time to value and deployment issues.
  • Analytical experience of developing, and distributing advanced and complex, web based and geographic information system analytics.
