You are interested technology solutions and financial systems and will work closely with colleagues to review strategy and solve problems.

Job Purpose:

As a member of the Group Tax team you will assist with day-to-day operational tasks to help deliver the team objectives. Study for a professional qualification is available and the post holder will be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities as experience and department requirements allow. During the period up to qualification you should expect to gain experience working in various disciplines of the function. These may include:

  • Corporation tax in 30 countries
  • VAT
  • International transactions
  • Tax reporting
  • Implementing tax technology solutions
  • Tax forecasting
  • Process and Internal Controls
  • Transfer pricing
  • Tax analytics
  • Projects

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide general support to senior members of the group tax team on all areas of tax along with 2 other tax analysts
  • Manage the tax online compliance database
  • Provide data to compliance outsource providers to facilitate tax return preparation
  • Support the internal tax enquiry database and report on team performance
  • Project manage work on routine mergers & acquisitions
  • Assist with all group tax reporting and forecasting
  • Project manage year end reporting and audit of tax
  • Identify and implement tax technology solutions to improve performance
  • Assist in preparation of ad-hoc and regular reports on key transactions
  • Provide support to tax teams outside of the UK, including query resolution and supporting the quarter end close process within global departments as needed
  • Assist with research into global indirect taxes, covering new legislation developments and exposures for global entities
  • Assist with the preparation and review of UK activities for Senior Accounting Officer returns to HMRC

Skills & Qualifications:

We are excited to welcome a Graduate/Trainee to the team and are seeking the following skills and qualifications as a foundation to develop in this role:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) obtained in an area such as Finance/ Economics / Computer Science with Finance or Business (2.1 & above)
  • Willingness to study towards a professional Taxation qualification. We also welcome applications from individuals who have started their qualification but have been impacted by Covid-19 reductions.
  • You have a keen interest in Tax and evolving technology solutions in this space e.g. Big Data, Automation, Blockchain
  • You have proficient skills in MS office technologies and are all round tech savvy
  • You are able to handle multiple priorities and be confident to prioritise accordingly. Proven examples of working to deadlines are required
  • You have proven data analysis skills and are high numerate
  • You are able to build good working relationships and would like to experience working in a diverse global team

Study assistance for professional qualification is available, where Sophos will support and reimburse 100% training costs. This will be subject to a commitment of 12 months post exam/module success, repayable on a sliding scale if you leave, withdraw or fail to successfully complete the course.
