Job Summary

The Data Scientist will be a key member of Convatec’s Transformation Office. The Transformation Office is responsible for orchestrating Convatec’s global corporate transformation and reports into the Chief Transformation Officer. The Data Scientist will report directly to the Vice President, Business Transformation.

You will leverage expertise in advanced statistical and modelling techniques to design and build next generation analytics engines, algorithms and models for the Transformation Office – with the goal of delivering more value in the Convatec Transformation.

Working closely with all members of the Transformation Office, you will be generating actionable business insights for our Transformation effort – leveraging a database that currently captures all of Convatec’s Transformation initiatives – including their plans, business cases, KPIs, headcount, project performance and pipelines of new projects and potential initiatives.

On top of this, you will be helping the Transformation Office to utilize data for smart decision-making.

Partnering with leaders across the Transformation (all business units, all regions and all functions), you will be developing action plans and “data science-based” interventions based on those business insights – that ultimately lead to significant business performance improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and owns a process that will manage all predictive analytics activities across the Transformation – from idea through to actual intervention in the business
  • Develops and owns a Transformation data science strategy and implementation “roadmap” that leads to new and improved statistical and predictive models and algorithms that will benefit the Transformation
  • Researches and benchmarks internal and external best practices with respect to applying data science to Transformation; then works with peers in the Transformation Office to convert these learnings into new programs and opportunities
  • The opportunity to lead the implementation of projects
  • Tests business hypotheses from leaders across the Transformation to assess whether those hypotheses can be converted into specific actions
  • Communicates complex technical concepts and analytical and statistical models and outputs to non-technical stakeholders across the business
  • Solves non-routine business problems by applying advanced methods – including AI, machine learning, advanced statistics, natural language processing, etc
  • Builds broader analytics and data science capabilities within Convatec’s Transformation “community”

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research or a related field AND 5+ years of experience
  • Preferred but not required: Masters Degree
  • Experience in relevant computing languages such as R, Python, Scala or C++
  • Experience of deep analytical problem solving in business environments
  • Practical experience in developing advanced statistical and machine learning models
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Although not essential, experience in the following would also be an added bonus:

  • Working within the medical technology industry
  • working with large database systems
