Job Description

Protecting data is increasingly more important, and in the fast paced world of betting and gaming, we have many opportunities to ensure that we do the right thing, protect the rights of our staff and customers, and keep our customers' data safe and secure so they can bet and game with confidence. Here, you'll join a small but busy team who oversee data protection across our global business.
About us
We make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.
Your role in the team
As William Hill continue to grow across the globe, we face new compliance challenges and regulatory demands. This does however mean we can build great relationship with our stakeholders in the USA, Poland, Gibraltar and closer to home across the UK too.
In this role you'll have responsibility for a range of important tasks including writing policy and procedure documents, managing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA), conducting periodic reviews of documentation and assisting with international transfer compliance requirements.
Your compliance knowledge will make you the go-to person who provides consultative data protection advice to the business. Colleagues in a variety of departments will seek you out when they need support handling data subject rights requests. They'll also come to you for help with the handling of personal data breaches, assistance with adhering to retention schedules, and any issues that need escalating to the Group DPO. You'll be able to answer a range of data related enquiries from external organisations too.
This role is located in London, however we don't expect you to be in the office every day, so we're open to applications from people who live further afield (as long as you can commute a few days a month). Longer term, there will be the opportunity for business travel to our key international sites.
Skills needed
We need you to have some experience working in a Data Protection department, and to have received in-house training provided by a Data Protection Officer or competent external training provider. You'll need to have proven experience of managing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA), policy documents, handling data subject access requests and breaches, and you'll also need to be conversant with data protection regulation, processes and procedures. Attention to detail is a vital skill.
As you'll advise the business, stakeholder management skills will be beneficial. We're a small team, so the ability to work independently and manage your time effectively is essential. You'll have plenty of support to make you feel part of the team, even if we're not all in the same office. It would be beneficial if you've had experience working with IT / technology functions, and are conversant with widely used commercial technologies. A qualification in Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe (CIPP/E) or Data Protection Practitioner would be useful, but is not essential.
What we offer
We’ll welcome you on-board with a generous car allowance (or company car), 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday), healthcare (or a cash alternative), an attractive pension package, income protection and life assurance. As an added incentive, we offer a rewarding bonus scheme too. And if you’re a fan of saving money and keeping fit, our handsomely discounted Zone 1-6 Oyster card and healthy gym discounts will be welcome news indeed.

Working in our London office you’ll also benefit from a heavily discounted Zone 1 – 6 travel card so you’ll be whizzing around London in no time.
