Systems Design Engineer

Location: Glasgow

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Systems Design Engineer to join our Land and Air Systems, specifically within Optronics and Missile Electronics.

This is an exciting opportunity where you will be involved in working on innovative designs for visual systems used in Naval or Vehicle applications. You will be involved in all aspects of the design development and qualification of the next generation visual systems. The role also has the opportunity to work on the upgrade of current systems to enhance and improve capability through the addition of new sensors or Artificial Intelligence. Our systems use a variety of sensors such as Day TV, SWIR, Thermal Imager and Lasers.

You will work closely with the Systems Engineering Manager and multi-disciplinary engineering teams, 3rd party partners, customers and end users.

What the role has to offer:

  • The opportunity to work on the design of the next generation vehicle sighting systems
  • Design develop and qualify visual systems for Naval or Vehicle applications
  • Define the mission systems for Armoured fighting vehicles
  • Integrate and qualify a variety of optical sensors for vehicle and Naval applications

Skills and experience:-

A Systems Engineer, you will have experience in system design and development of complex hardware and software systems together with proven experience in working collaboratively across multiple product development and specialist domain teams.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work with combinations of technologies and be able to understand how to integrate them in a logical and structured way into a system that will fully satisfy a Customers requirement. An experienced system engineer you will need to understand the whole system and its components, and from their unique technical view guide a project to a successful conclusion.

You will have working knowledge of Safety (SIL) and a track record of working and delivering on solutions for a defence programme, together with significant experience interfacing with internal and external customers, understanding system requirements in the defence domain.

You will be able to demonstrate that you are enthusiastic about modern defence technologies, design methodologies and have an aptitude for Systems Thinking

Working Hours:

You will be contracted to 37 hours per week; core hours Monday-Thursday 08:00-16:30, Friday 08:00-13:00. We will always consider flexible hours and working arrangements.
