Job Description

At Improbable, we believe that the next revolution in entertainment and society will come from massive virtual worlds. They will create new economies and opportunities globally, changing not just how we play, but how we work and relate to each other. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to build the next generation of technologies for online multi-user games and simulations.
At Improbable, you are surrounded by people who want to improve everything and everyone around them, and who compel you to improve yourself. We’re motivated by the fulfilment of solving hard problems to achieve something profound and transformative.
Your Mission
The mission of the Engineering Velocity team is to enable other development teams to focus on delivering the highest possible value to their customers. We do this by removing productivity roadblocks and providing the tools and expertise for achieving high velocity iteration workflows.
Amongst other things, we offer our customers a continuous integration platform that is used for rapidly and confidently building, testing and delivering anything from back-end services to new and innovative games on all major OSes, mobile platforms and consoles on a 24/7 basis.
We provide best practice guides and consultancy for day-to-day workflows, environment configuration and continuous integration to address every customer’s need. We frequently interview and pair with our customers to identify new potential workflow optimisations and keep abreast of emerging issues within their specific problems spaces.

Areas of impact

  • You’ll continuously act as a force-multiplier for our engineering population.
  • You’ll investigate new avenues to accelerate game development in collaboration with Improbable’s internal game studios and partners.
  • You’ll operate, maintain and improve our company wide CI platform and associated tooling providing build capabilities for all major OSes, mobile platforms and consoles.
  • You’ll improve our suite of products supporting the day-to-day developer experience.

We'd like to hear from you if you identify with the following

  • You’re customer focussed and enjoy solving problems to help teams succeed.
  • Coding in a strongly typed language such as Go, Rust, C / C++ or Java.
  • You are motivated by a desire to learn and to share your knowledge with others and shine in an environment of shared learning.
  • Continuous Integration and Delivery excite you, and you strive to avoid Continuous Irritation and Continuous Disappointment!
  • You’re familiar with operating in production, inside cloud-native infrastructure using one or more large scale cloud platforms.
  • You develop quality solutions and own them for their full lifecycle. You understand the value of optimising for the longer term while still being tactically pragmatic.
  • You’ve developed command-line tools that improve developer productivity.
  • Using tools like Ansible to configure machines in a repeatable manner and avoid surprise breakages.
  • Developing, running and supporting applications on a container orchestration system such as Kubernetes.
  • Working in largely self organising distributed agile teams.

DisclaimerWhile we think the above experience could be important, we can’t predict the future and so we’re keen to hear from applicants that believe they have valuable experience. If you identify with the team & mission, but not all of the suggestions, then please still apply!!
