Claims Vendor Data Analyst
Reporting to: Group Head of Claims, Vendor Management
Location: York (with home working- 2-3 days per week)

The role:

This is a great opportunity for a skilled Data Analyst or even Data Scientist to join our claims vendor management team in the Claims function where there is a renewed and heightened need for data analytics and insights across our third party spend . We have tons of data at our finger tips and we need someone who can come in, leverage this treasure trove and provide valuable insights to our team and business stakeholders. About the Claims Vendor Management Team:

The claims vendor team is currently a small multi-function team with a world-wide remit. The Group Head of Claims Vendor Management reports directly to the Chief Claims Officer and the Vendor team are an integral part of the global claims business unit.

They are a hands on team with a core responsibility for vendor selection; contracting; rating; on-going governance, audit and compliance of all third parties supporting the claims function.

It’s a busy team with a big remit; there is lots of autonomy to improve processes, solve problems and opportunities to make a big difference on the functional business plan. The mission is simple – deliver great value for Hiscox and a consistently good service for our customers, by selecting progressive and innovative vendors; negotiating challenging service standards; competitive rates; and constantly innovating.

Going forwards into 2021 and as part of the Claims Functions Transformation Programme we need more data analysis which can support our 2021 strategy for Delegated Claims Authorities in the London Market and Retail business units.


  • Assess current state and performance of DA portfolio and identify savings, cost avoidance and growth opportunities in London Market and retail business (UK, Europe and USA).
  • Assess current state and management of Loss funds in London Markets and the retail businesses (UK, Europe and USA)
  • Work collaboratively with wider teams across the business to build and maintain fit for purpose vendor data reports
  • Understand range of service level agreements and contract conditions and translate this to quantifiable elements where relevant
  • Support claims vendor auditor on planning, administering, executing and briefing on DA claims audits.
  • Assist the Group Claims Vendor Manager in the management of vendor responsibilities and other reasonable duties as may be required.
  • Support a team-wide programme of digitisation from repository; contract management; invoicing and reporting
  • Work with the team to implement and manage systems and processes to monitor and measure service provision through the entire vendor chain to ensure that we know ‘what good looks like’.

person specification:

  • Bachelor's degree (min 2.1) in a field that requires deep analytical thinking and problem solving or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in Insurance (ideally Claims) in a Data Analysis role
  • Any vendor-related work (performance analysis, contracts) is highly desirable. Management consulting experience a plus.
  • Excellent Excel & Powerpoint skills as well as good R, Python and SQL.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced and unstructured environments
  • Intellectually curious, high energy, and strong work ethic
  • Able to navigate ambiguous situations, identify and solve for blockers with minimal guidance, know how to build cross-organisational partnership.
  • History of teamwork and willingness to roll up sleeves to get the job done.
