The Role:

Our team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build Machine Learning tools. Elsevier is building a Data Platform to extract information from scientific papers, using cutting-edge machine learning algorithms. Our team mines knowledge from published papers and delivers it to the Data Platform, ready for use in customer-facing applications; we are a cross-functional team of software engineers and data scientists. Experience that we're looking for as a Senior Software Engineer - Python:

  • Design, build and test high-quality software to extract information from scientific papers
  • Work with Python, Apache Kafka, Amazon SageMaker and other machine learning tools
  • Mentor junior developers
  • Collaborate with machine learning experts to build and enhance our Data Platform.
  • Promote industry best-practices (CI/CD, TDD, Agile, Lean/XP)
  • Play an active part in team discussions, project planning, and collaborations with stakeholders
  • Work continuously to improve our code, processes, and team performance
  • Present technical work to a range of audiences

You have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent programming skills, ideally with experience in Python
  • Worked in Agile software teams.
  • Familiarity with large-scale data processing techniques and tools.
  • A strong interest in software engineering best-practices
