Job Description

The Dyson Institute Software Engineer will be responsible for development of the software engineering knowledge and skills of the undergraduate engineers. Working closely with the Workplace Manager and Lecturers from Dyson Institute and the University of Warwick they will ensure that the workplace element of the course supports and enhances the taught content.

The Dyson Institute Software Engineer will work closely with line managers (particularly Software line managers) to identify appropriate ‘Scope of work’ for Undergraduates, manage allocation for new rotations; monitor and maintain undergraduate progress. They will also seek and incorporate feedback from the undergraduates where appropriate.


About the role

  • Lead and support line managers with the development of training and projects that support and apply the learning from the academic course.
  • Assist in the development of interesting and relevant coursework and lab exercises to aid student learning and assessment.
  • Support undergraduates with technical problems they may encounter on their course or within their roles.
  • Support the recruitment team to select the next cohort of students for the Dyson Institute through interviews and assessment of their technical capabilities.
  • Support the Lecturers in all relevant teaching and laboratories and manage workplace training delivered on site for the undergraduates.
  • Hold technical 1 to 1s with the undergraduates to discuss both academic and workplace elements for their personal development.
  • Support the development of the undergraduates into the right technical roles and specialisms as they progress at Dyson.
  • Support with the development of policies /process to improve the Workplace experience for the undergraduates and line managers.

About you

  • A good first degree or Masters in Computer Science or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.
  • Ability to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Dyson values.
  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment.
  • Excellent team-working skills
