We hope that you are our new Statistical Science Director (Supervisor) to join and play an important part in our growing Early stage portfolio in the Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic area. This role combines individual statistical design and strategic contributions with the opportunity to lead, manage, and develop a group of Statisticians.

In this role, you will belong to the Early Biometrics & Statistical Innovation (EB&SI) department, where our data-centric focus helps us work efficiently and creatively to bring the right medicines to the right patients. Our teams use their expertise in statistics and programming to address drug development objectives and reduce uncertainty in product development, driving better business decisions with quantitative reasoning. As part of Data Science & AI, you’ll use technology at the forefront of science in a creative environment, with the scope to develop new statistical ideas and apply them in your work.

What you will do:


As a Statistical Science Director (Supervisor) you will line manage and develop a team of statisticians. You will be expected to:

  • Take on a leadership role and drive statistical thinking in cross-functional team projects
  • Lead, manage, and develop a global group of statisticians, ensuring the successful delivery of projects while also considering the development needs of the team
  • Contribute to strategic planning and quantitative decision making
  • Participate in adapting and developing statistical methodology
  • Contribute to development of new procedures and standards to increase quality, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Influence key stakeholders and governance
  • Act as a technical expert in interactions with external providers and collaborators
  • Work with regulatory agencies, e.g. attending meetings, answering questions
  • Provide mentoring to more junior staff and present at internal training seminars

Essential in the role:

  • The minimum required education is a M.Sc./PhD degree in a relevant discipline such as statistics, biostatistics, or mathematical statistics, with exemplary technical skills.
  • Knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements with experience in pharmaceutical development, health care, or other relevant areas.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • A track record of independent leadership and initiative, previous managerial experience is not essential.
  • Excellent collaborative skills
  • Forward thinking awareness of the pharmaceutical landscape
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
