RoleWe are looking for a Software Engineer to join our expanding Core Products team in Abingdon. In this role you will be part of an agile team, developing new features for our cross-platform anti-malware components including the anti-virus engine and next generation file scanner. These components are central to our flagship products including Sophos InterceptX for endpoints, Sophos Firewall and Sophos Home. This team is highly collaborative and supportive and you will find that you are very quickly contributing to shipping code. In this role you will be using predominantly C and modern C++. You will also use Python for internal development such as test automation.
Applications are welcome at both senior and junior levels.Main Duties

  • Participate in the design of products in line with technical strategy, quality and functional requirements.
  • Actively contribute to release planning and drive for high-value and high-quality solutions which meet business needs.
  • Write product code along with test automation to deliver against project timescales, quality and requirements.
  • Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative estimation and retrospective meetings.
  • Participate in security reviews of new developments to ensure that released products comply with security requirements and industry best practice.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed.

Experience and SkillsEssential:

  • Development of secure, high performance code in C and C++.
  • Working in an agile team, helping it to continuously improve.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role.
  • Technical problem solving.
  • Effective communication with different types of audience.
  • BSc in Computing or other numerate discipline, or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience of developing cross platform code for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS X platforms.
  • Building complex, high performance software.
  • Development of security related products.
  • Experience in writing highly secure code.
  • Confidence in presenting to a group
