Post Title: Robotics and Machine Learning Engineer (KTP Finisher)
SBU/Department: School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science
FTE: 1.0fte (working 37.5 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Fixed term for 6 months
Salary: UH7 £34,304pa to £40,927pa depending on skills and experience
Location: Glinwell plc, St Albans, and College Lane Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield
An exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified postgraduate to manage and deliver the KTP project plan in developing artificially intelligent and commercially efficient robotic systems, incorporating machine learning into the vegetable harvesting and picking process for fresh produce grown in glass houses.
Due to funding restrictions the successful applicant must be able to start work by no later than 31 May 2022 and therefore we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to manage and deliver the KTP project plan in developing artificially intelligent and commercially efficient robotics systems, incorporating machine learning into vegetable harvesting and picking process for fresh produce grown in glass houses. You will quickly become familiar with current project progress to continue the development within the timeframe of six months and will drive research in order to achieve the project milestones through to completion. You will attend project meetings and assist with project administration.
You will handle data collection and analysis and contribute on the design and organisation of the project as well as work with academic team members on peer reviewed papers and presentations. You will be expected to disseminate the results and outputs of the project and ensure the collating and writing of final project are of a high standard. You will take an active part in the academic life of the School through participation in seminars and other similar events.
Skill and experience required
The role requires you to have proven practical expertise and experience in an array of skills revolving around machine learning and robotics. You will have excellent knowledge and experience in developing algorithms, programming robots and in design and construction of robotic devices. You will have the ability to develop device drivers for integrating devices with robotic systems, compile technical specification documents and write professional technical reports.
Hours of work are 09:00 to 17:30 Monday to Friday (with 60 minutes unpaid lunch) however some flexibility can be applied for the ideal candidate.
Qualifications required
You will have at least an MSc (or equivalent qualification) in Robotics, Cybernetics, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence or related field.
