Job description

Organisation Details
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Driven by government’s aim for clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas, MMO’s purpose is to protect and enhance our precious marine environment, and support UK economic growth by enabling sustainable marine activities and development.
We are the independent regulator for England’s seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.
We are a team of around 400 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline. We also have colleagues based in Defra offices, including Bristol, Cambridge and York where we share office space.
These roles are situated in our Business intelligence (BI) Team in the Marine Management Organisation (MMO). The BI Team is one of 3 analytical teams within the wider Statistical and Analysis (SAT) Team which itself is part of the Digital and Analysis Directorate.
This is a really exciting time to join the MMO. As an independent coastal state we’re working on embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment. The work of the MMO is underpinned by data and evidence. In these roles you will apply your analytical skillset to help the organisation in understanding and measuring MMO impact. By using innovative analytics and data science techniques you will work to maximise the value of our data ensuring efficient and effective performance.
You will report to the Head of Business Intelligence and engage closely with colleagues across the organisation on data spanning the range of MMO competences from fisheries management to marine licencing. You’ll work to understand business needs and deliver tailored analytical solutions using a range of coding languages and reporting software. By using your strong communication skills you’ll disseminate a range of analytical products and outputs to customers across the business and support them in their correct use and maintenance.
This year our Business Intelligence team are rolling out a range of new reporting services in Power BI. These roles will be actively involved in the rollout across the organisation, positioned as a Superuser you will have the opportunity to meet and support a wide range of MMO colleagues. In order to enhance our internal reporting capabilities you will immerse yourself in our culture and learn about the diverse and interesting range of responsibilities held by the MMO.
