The Opportunity

At Leonardo Helicopters, we have exciting opportunities for Systems Engineers to work within our Mission Management Systems Group. In our Mission Management Systems Group, UK, we are a diverse and forward-looking group that is involved across Research and Development, Main Programmes and support to Training within our helicopters business.
We are responsible for three main aspects.
  • Airborne Software Engineering, developing the Mission System for our helicopters and in technology programmes.
  • Engineering Simulation, applying new developments and integration in our leading edge Synthetic Environment
  • Assurance of software development activity, both at LHD and with our suppliers.

What you will do

You will be working alongside engaging colleagues and a forward-looking and supportive management team. You will be supported and stimulated by interesting engineering challenges that are developed into software-based solutions that are embodied onto aircraft and Synthetic Environments. Our team supports both the UK and Italian geographies so although based in the UK there is the opportunity to work on our full product range.
As part of the Mission Systems group you will have the opportunity to undertake new developments of the Mission System and Synthetic Environment, working within development teams on our rigs and in our simulators across a range of activities. This will involve collaborative working within our group and supporting groups to design, develop and qualify the Mission System and Synthetic Environment in response to specific customer requirements.
You will work closely within our requirements, development and test teams in order to develop upgrades, new aircraft configurations and new designs through the development process. You will be joining an award winning team that cares about its role in the business and its contribution to our current and future helicopter developments.

What we are looking for

We are seeking open-minded individuals, who have solid experience in Software Engineering and with proven ability that can be applied across our products and services.
To perform the role you will work well in a team, be flexible and you will have:
  • Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Avionics, Computer Science, Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering).
  • Aptitude in Software Engineering, ideally with experience of application in aerospace and knowledge of DO-178.
  • Minimum of three years industrial experience
  • Ideally a background in developing avionics in an aerospace environment (civil or military).
  • A knowledge and appreciation of the full Systems Engineering lifecycle
  • The ability to plan, capture/define requirements and execute tasks to achieve timescales and costs.
  • Ability and interest to explore and understand complex engineering designs, processes and inter-dependencies with implications for cost, time and risk.
  • Ability to communicate and engage with and equally across multi-functional teams, and with colleagues at all levels
