An exciting opportunity to join the Analytics team within the Strategic Planning & Analytics Group, helping to support broader institutional ambitions around data and management information. You will contribute to the success of the University by designing, developing, and delivering Analytics solutions; from eliciting and defining stakeholder needs, to delivering solutions and ongoing support and maintenance. You will be influential in identifying the correct platform and tools to deliver analytics and data visualisations, requiring you to keep abreast of the latest technology related to analytics and be able to suggest and support change as necessary.
You will have a strong background in data reporting, visualisation, analytics, and management information, alongside experience in modelling and utilising appropriate statistical techniques. You will be familiar with tools like Power BI, Cognos, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, and R, although additional training will be provided. You will be able to confidently engage with a range of different stakeholders across the University to identify requirements and design and build solutions providing a high-quality service that also delivers continuous improvement.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
This is a generalist role with a focus on analytics that offers an opportunity to develop or further advance a career in university administration. In supporting the delivery of management information to a variety of university stakeholders, the post-holder will balance challenging timescales, fluctuating demands, finite resources, and the requirement to deliver a high-quality service.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To be responsible for the development and provision of timely, high quality management information for use in university processes, as directed by the Head of Analytics. This will take the form of either ad-hoc analysis or form part of a larger programme of structured work. These can range from technical modelling projects, i.e., forecasting of the Knowledge Exchange Framework, to extended pieces of analysis, i.e., collaboration profiles with international institutions. They will include the use of external and internal data from a wide range of possible sources and necessitate the adoption of agreed presentation standards. The post-holder must be able to assimilate information quickly and identify, analyse, and interpret patterns in complex data sets. They will also need to work collaboratively with other administrative and academic departments as necessary.
2. To be responsible for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of competitors across a range of teaching and research performance measures. To help coordinate the work of the Strategy Development process, ensuring that metrics are provided in a timely and effective manner, and help ARC administrators to continually develop and improve the Strategy Development process.
3. To be responsible for the timely collection and analysis of both National (CUG, GUG, Guardian) and International (QS, THE, AWRU) league table data, as well as providing bespoke analysis to support University processes and, in particular, the Ranking Task Force.
4. To support the Market Research & Insight team, providing analysis and analytics on a variety of projects, as required throughout the year.
5. To support SMTT in undertaking space and other data modelling and forecasting to support capital planning and capital projects business proposals; this will involve working closely with Strategic Programme Delivery who will coordinate the production of business cases and other project initiation documents.
6. Support the co-ordination and development of the annual SPA Yearbook. Work closely with SPA colleagues to plan and implement improvement of this project.
7. To promote continuous improvement across all aspects of work, as well as explore the potential for, develop processes in and subsequently utilise new software packages (i.e., Alteryx, Power BI, R).
8. To act as an academic resourcing, strategic planning, and performance contact for a portfolio of academic departments as required.
9. To work collaboratively with other colleagues to share knowledge and understanding of internal systems, data analysis tools and techniques to ensure that data is effectively and consistently used across university processes.
