An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for the role of Business Intelligence Analyst within Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance in partnership with Greater Manchester Integrated Care.
The role offers excellent opportunities to work in a dynamic team of analysts to produce and use data and analysis to monitor progress and drive transformation in Cancer Services, through the production of regular reporting and bespoke analysis.
The GM system is a leader in analytics and data and has deployed a modern, cutting-edge BI stack including Snowflake, Tableau, Data Robot and Matillion. The successful applicant will gain exposure to these tools and technologies and training will be provided.
 
Responsibilities include supporting the Senior/Lead Analysts to:
  • Contribute to high profile data products and pieces of analysis supporting the recovery of Cancer services following Covid, and implementation of transformation projects to meet the NHSE Long Term Plan ambitions.
  • Develop analytical tools to automate data management and reporting.
  • Conduct ongoing data management, including cleaning, merging, and organising quantitative data sets and preparing data for analysis.
  • Present analysis and headline findings to engage with key stakeholders.
The post holder will be expected to:
  • Respond to ad-hoc analytical request from customers
  • Have delegated responsibility for leading the development on a series of high line Cancer KPI dashboards
  • Provide guidance & support and issue/problem resolution to end users of the functions reporting systems
  • Support and contribute to BI team meetings and working groups and identify ways to assist the GM Cancer Alliance BI team and the wider GM Informatics function.
This post will also offer the opportunity for working from home, with the ability to attend key meeting within the Greater Manchester footprint.
Greater Manchester (GM) Cancer is the cancer programme of Greater Manchester’s devolved health and social care system. GM Cancer has a broad focus, from prevention and early diagnosis to living with and beyond cancer and end of life care. The programme includes, among other things, the work of the Pathway Boards that were set up through Manchester Cancer and the work taking place in the Greater Manchester as part of the national cancer vanguard.
Cancer survival rates in Manchester are improving. A cancer patient diagnosed here today has the same chance of surviving as the average for England as a whole. However, there remains a lot of work to do to give the people of Greater Manchester cancer services that match the best in the world. This is the first time that health and social care organisations have come together across a whole region to develop an action plan to tackle cancer.
GM Cancer is taking a new and exciting approach to cancer intelligence, providing a much-needed service for Greater Manchester and East Cheshire. We are developing a programme to enable cancer outcomes and performance data to be routinely measured, analysed and accessed by all in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire who are involved in the provision and delivery of cancer care.
To implement our GM Cancer Plan and the overall vision for the Partnership it is imperative that effective access to data and intelligence is in place within GM Cancer around this transformation.
 
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Service Delivery
 
Work closely with Principal Analyst and other Team members helping provide all the necessary data, analytical and statistical functions to support GMC projects and the wider GMC strategy.
Perform statistical analyses of clinical outcomes, service performance and access to services, patient experience, patient reported outcomes and data quality.
Apply analytical and statistical knowledge to critically appraise and challenge the results of outputs ensuring only meaningful information is delivered to GMC stakeholders.
 
Communication and support
 
Act as a DIS point of contact for data, reporting and analytical queries ensuring they are logged, tracked and disseminated to the rest of the Team. T
Communicate with all GMC stakeholders, becoming familiar with specialised clinical terminology, to understand issues being raised in detail.
Develop appreciation for the working environment of the GMC and GMCHSCP community, helping to ensure outputs meet expectations of stakeholders.
Access to highly complex and sensitive information and demonstrate a keen understanding of data confidentiality and information governance.
Liaise with other GMC and GMHSC Partnership analytical teams to ensure a consistent and robust approach to data and intelligence reporting.
 
Data and information
 
Ensure the most effective use of data and statistical methods within the scope of the role to support the objectives of the DIS and the wider GMC; helping to disseminate information relevant to target metrics, helping to translate statistics into intelligence, and evaluating data integrity and limitations.
Work closely with GMC Project Leads to meet the data and analytical needs of their respective projects; helping to source data, advising on data integrity and quality, helping to plan data collection, advising on the best analytical/statistical approach, and undertaking analyses where required.
Develop advanced levels of understanding of specialty specific data, applying an exceptional attention to detail, ensuring the highest quality and efficient processes are implemented.
Work with the BI Analyst and Senior BI Analyst to develop new reports and visual representations of data, statistics, and intelligence for the BI dashboard.
 
Planning and reporting
 
Report on progress, deliverables, issues, and risks associated with their own work area and objectives and their contribution to the DIS work program.
Respond in a timely and highly professional manner to planned and unplanned events and will work with the Principal Analyst to allocate resources according to priority.

You will need to use initiative to decide relevant actions and make recommendations to Manager, with the aim of improving deliverables and compliance to policies.
