Our Special Services team is looking for a Data Analyst to support our business in the area of Information Management. This is an opportunity to apply and further develop your data analysis skills within the built environment, working on some of the global major projects across that Mott MacDonald is involved with. These projects have access to a wealth of data and our challenge is to bring control and structure to this data in order to extract its value and improve the way our industry operates.

It’s an opportunity to be creative in developing information and technology-based solutions to real-world problems, obtaining, organising and extracting value from data, and using the resulting information to help our clients make good decisions. To do this you’ll work collaboratively as part of a team alongside engineers, GIS specialists, technologists and other data analysts to develop and deliver these solutions and make a positive contribution to the safety, performance and sustainability of our clients’ infrastructure, for the benefit of society.

Responsibilities include:

  • working as part of an established and enthusiastic team with a long history of providing leading edge information management advice to major infrastructure clients, particularly in the field of transportation

  • liaising with our clients on data analytics, and translate complex methodologies into easily understandable concepts that are grounded in the assets that they own and manage

  • proactively assessing our ways of working and investigate and promote new methods that will improve our service and keep us at the leading edge relative to our competitors

  • applying rigorous quality procedures to ensure that the work that we undertake is complete and accurate, both in terms of the correct operation of coded or scripted processes, but crucially in terms of the engineering logic required to ensure that analysis outputs are relevant

  • engaging with other parts of Special Services and MNC, to provide data science expertise and overall mentorship to others applying data science

Candidate Specification

We are looking for people to join our team who are passionate about improving the way we deal with and extract value from data. You’ll work as part of a highly successful team, working with other specialists to deliver leading-edge data solutions to our clients from various industries. You will help solve complex data problems and develop innovative solutions to extract insights from our data and ensure outstanding data management in line with our business strategy. Your day to day role will involve the use of Microsoft Office tools such as Power BI and Power Apps, coding and development tools and you will work as part of small teams focused on delivery projects in the construction industry.

We’d also like you to have:

  • Higher level education in an appropriate STEM or applied analytical discipline

  • Natural ability to think laterally and strategically with an analytical mindset.

  • Experience in building data visualisations and dashboards on Power BI

  • Excel proficiency, including data visualisation and pivot tables

  • Good technical knowledge of a range of software platforms, databases and tools

  • Strong people skills, the ability to listen, understand and train people to work with the new technology

  • Be open minded, assertive, cooperative, strong sense of team, vision driven

  • Good English written and verbal skills and ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with technical specialists from other disciplines and with non-technical people in language that they will understand.

It would be desirable if you have experience in:

  • Project delivery experience in the built infrastructure

  • Building data structures for cross platform mobile apps to gather and store user data.

  • Using SQL and U-SQL (Azure data lakes) to transform and interrogate big data files to be used in analytics.

  • Automating data processes using Python.
